Marsha Marsh, the visionary for Marsha Marsh Real Estate Services truly lives and breathes real estate. One only needs to spend a few minutes with Marsha to feel her enthusiasm and the exuberant passion she has for the profession. She is an entrepreneur in every sense of the word. According to Merriam-Webster’s on-line dictionary, Entrepreneur is . . . “a person who is willing to help launch a new venture or enterprise and accept full responsibility for the outcome”.
Marsha’s path to becoming a successful entrepreneur began after her youngest son started kindergarten in 1988 and her three other boys were well established within the Corry School District. This stay-at-home mom decided it was time to start her professional career and went to work part-time at her brother’s dental office. Marsha had a knack with people and the ability to make them feel comfortable and cared for. She later moved into a fulltime position, but felt something was missing. Marsha knew she was capable of doing more and being more so she set her sites on something bigger and better.
Marsha’s mother, Shirley Hammerlee, had been a successful real estate agent for a number of years. Considering this a viable career path, Marsha enrolled in several real estate classes and subsequently obtained her REALTOR® license in 1998. She worked part-time, evenings and weekends for Holland Metro Real Estate, (later purchased by Coldwell Banker Select Realtors), until 2007. Marsha had found her calling and soon thereafter, quit her job at the dental office in 1998, and pursued her vision of becoming the best real estate agent in Erie.
As a female entrepreneur, Marsha attributes her success to honesty, enthusiasm, good character, a positive attitude and good listening skills. She is not only a successful real estate agent but she is also a successful businesswoman who is full of boundless energy. Marsha firmly believes that customer referrals have played a major role in the rapid success of Marsha Marsh Real Estate Services. “What better way to gain new business and positive advertising than by a referral from a happy and satisfied customer,” added Marsh. “In fact, we attribute over 88 percent of our business comes from referrals of past clients.”
Marsha describes one of her challenges as being the only woman in a family surrounded by all men. “With a husband, four boys, a father and a brother, I learned how to survive in what was once believed to be a man’s world. If you’re working with men, you know you can’t be one but you have to understand them. I’ve learned to understand them and in return they respect me and everything I stand for. This respect has helped propel my confidence to the next level.”
Marsha Marsh Real Estate Services was founded on Christian values and humble attitudes. The entire organization takes great pride in giving back to the community and to charitable organizations that help improve and strengthen the lives of Erie area residents. “We all make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give,” added Marsh. “We are dedicated to helping those in need because we genuinely care.”
Throughout Marsha’s notable career, she has received numerous honors and awards including the prestigious Eagle award for Top Producer in 2005 and 2006. She also received the dubious distinction as a Top Ten Producer in Pennsylvania for three consecutive years while with Coldwell Banker and made the top ten in the region, which in 2006 included 11 states. Since 2004, Marsha has consistently sold over 21 million annually and topped 27 million in 2007.
As a real estate professional, Marsha is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR®) and has served on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® (PAR®) since 2010. She is a member of the Greater Erie Board of REALTORS® (GEBOR®) where she served as president in 2010. Marsha is a Senior Real Estate Specialist and carries several certifications and distinctions including Accredited Buyer’s Representative® (ABR®), Certified Distressed Property Expert® (CDPE®) and she is a supporter of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC®). Marsh is also proud to serve on the Board of Incorporators for the Corry Hospital and most recently was endorsed as a local provider for Dave Ramsey.
Marsha is adept at catering to a wide range of clients but has established herself as a luxury living specialist. As a result, Elite Estates (properties listed + $350,000) has become her forte in addition to residential, commercial, relocation and new construction.
Over the years, Marsha has developed an unparalleled level of trust with all her clients and enjoys being known for her integrity and unsurpassed client service. “Selling real estate is all about building relationships,” explains Marsh. “Every relationship is different but they all require honesty, nurturing and attention. I do my best to assist clients in finding the right fit for their needs, their lifestyle and their passions.”
Marsha takes advantage of every possible learning experience and opportunity to better herself. She attends conferences and seminars to learn from some of the best agents, brokers and entrepreneurs from across the country. She is also gaining a name for herself as she most recently was asked to be a guest speaker at the Triple Play REALTOR® Convention & Trade Expo in Atlantic City. Marsha is one of only two agents from Pennsylvania to speak at the December 2011 conference.
Marsha believes in sharing her knowledge and successes with her agents. She enjoys serving as a mentor and working with agents to help them develop good habits, attitudes and skill sets. “Real estate is the best business in the world,” Marsh exclaims. “As a brokerage, we encourage our agents to work hard and to be inspired by what they see and do. We are not ‘broker-centric’, we are all about our agents.”
This philosophy may have led to the rapid growth of agents from a mere handful in 2008 to over 30 agents at the Peach Street office. With this office at capacity, it was apparent that Marsha Marsh Real Estate Services needed to expand not only their office space but also their presence in the county.
Laban Marsh, agent, broker and owner explained that, “After three and a half years of unprecedented growth, the brokerage ran out of adequate space to support our growing roster of agents and the increasing volume of clients. Our new convenient locations will provide more than double the professional office space and will enable the entire Marsha Marsh Real Estate Services organization to better serve our valued clients through increased resources, greater technology, additional conference/meeting space and easy access.”
Marsh further added, “The Millcreek office, 4202 West Ridge Road, was a perfect location to serve the growing number of clients from the West County and will provide additional office space and conference rooms to better serve our clients. The Corry office, 38 East Columbus Avenue, will serve as a central location for rural Erie County clients and agents.”
Having a presence in the Corry area was an easy decision as the Marsh family has a history in the community that dates back to 1860. Although the Marsh clan has moved to the Erie area, they continue to have a love and appreciation for the Corry community and to this day, play an active role in sponsoring high school athletics. According to Greg Marsh, the value in the Corry location was “opportunity, history, love for the community, agents on staff already living in Corry and especially the close proximity to Augies Pizza!”
